2 Arrested After Police Pursuit, Car Crash

LONG BEACH, CA — Two suspects were arrested after a traffic stop in Long Beach turned into a police pursuit, officers said.

Officers attempted to conduct the traffic stop at about 11:18 p.m. on Monday in the area of 15th Street and Locust Avenue, but the vehicle fled causing a police pursuit. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed into another car injuring another driver.

"Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the driver of the private citizen vehicle to a local hospital for their non-life-threatening injuries," the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement.

The vehicle stopped near Long Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway and three suspects attempted to flee on foot, police said. According to LBPD, officers used force to take down one of the suspects and arrest them.

SWAT was activated to search for one of the suspects in the area of North Pasadena Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, but they were unable to locate them.

Two firearms were recovered from the suspect vehicle, police said.

The identity of the third suspect was unknown, but officers identified Michael Tate, 24 of Long Beach, and Ronal Frances England, a 27-year-old person experiencing homelessness as the other two suspects.

Tate is suspected of evading a peace officer, vehicle driver/owner to permit another to carry a firearm into a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, carrying a loaded handgun, carrying a loaded firearm on/in person and vehicle, driving a vehicle with suspended or revoked license, driving under the influence, reckless driving with injury, failure to stop at a red light, failure to stop the vehicle at a crosswalk, driving at an unsafe speed and taking vehicle without owner’s consent.

England is suspected of carrying a loaded handgun, carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, and resisting a peace officer.

Both of their bails are pending magistrate review and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
