LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach police fatally shot an armed suspect Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers were notified about a man with a gun at MacArthur Park in the area of 14th Street and Gundry Avenue at about 4:21 p.m. At the time, there were also many other people at the park, officers said.

When officers arrived they saw the suspect holding a gun and ordered him to drop the firearm. Police said that the man did not comply with the officers' orders, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

After the shooting, paramedics took the suspect to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers at the scene were equipped with body-worn cameras and the LBPD is in the process of reviewing the footage, which will be made available to the public as soon as possible authorities said.

The police department will conduct a full multi-level review of the incident. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office will also conduct an independent investigation of the incident.
