LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach police arrested a man who barricaded himself inside a reportedly stolen car near Recreation Park Golf Course late Sunday night, authorities said.

At about 10:45 p.m., the Long Beach Police Department saw a car that was reported stolen and attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Anaheim Street and Clark Avenue.

"The suspect refused to comply with the officer’s commands and subsequently barricaded himself within the vehicle," LBPD said in a statement.

SWAT officers responded to the scene and utilized pepper gel against the suspect, LBPD said. The suspect exited the car and officers took him into custody.

Police identified Tywon Andre Patterson, a 37-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, as the suspect and he was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft and resisting a police officer.

Bail is pending magistrate review, authorities said.
