LONG BEACH, CA — A 16-year-old boy was arrested this week in connection to a Downtown Long Beach shooting that injured another teen, police said.

The shooting happened on March 16 at about 6:26 p.m. in the area of East 1st Street and The Promenade, police said. At the time, officers helped treat a 16-year-old boy who had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in his lower body.

The boy was taken to a local hospital to treat his injury and the suspect fled the scene prior to officers' arrival.

"In the ensuing weeks, detectives pursued all leads and collected several pieces of evidence. With the use of technology, detectives were able to identify the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant," LBPD said in a statement.

On April 16, detectives arrested the suspect in Los Angeles and obtained additional evidence they believe is connected to the shooting. The gun had been previously recovered by the LA Police Department.
