BURLINGAME, Ca - In an inaugural group show at the Museum Studios Gallery in Burlingame, Bay Area Art Collective Work In Progress will be presenting their work around the theme of Entangled. The show includes the work of four artists and their meditations on what it means to be a part of, submerged in, and dominated by a complex system of connections.

The collective believes that we are all entangled in a system.

“We make decisions and navigate our lives by it. We love and hate by it. We are driven mad by it and we depend on it for support. We are completely submerged in it--there is no beginning and there is no end. It’s chaotic and horrible and complex and beautiful,” comments collective member Irene Carvajal. “Entanglement is a state we find ourselves in because we are human and inextricably linked to one another. It is a feeling, a state of being, and our condition as social beings.”

The work explores ideas of entanglement in relationship with self, others, religion, society, possessions, technology, production and ideas. The art takes form as paintings, sculpture and installation.

The Work In Progress Collective is made up of four Bay Area artists: Irene Carvajal, Sarah Ammons, Ashleigh Norman & Winnie van der Rijn. In a world that needs art but does not support the artist, these artists are working to create a community to support, critique, collaborate, inspire and coach each other in their group and individual artistic pursuits. They believe in growth, iteration and evolution for themselves and their work. Although this is their inaugural show as a group, the individual members have taught, shown work and completed residences locally, nationally and internationally.

Entanglement Exhibit runs from March 25 through May 1st 2016

Artists’ Opening Reception Friday March 25th 6-9pm
