'Dangerously Hot' Temperatures Forecast In Coachella Valley, Pass Area

An excessive heat watch will be in effect starting Friday morning. The mercury is expected to soar past 110 degrees in the desert.

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — The National Weather Service is advising residents and travelers in the Coachella Valley and San Gorgonio Pass Area that excessive heat is forecast starting Friday and lasting through the weekend.

According to the agency, "Dangerously hot conditions" are expected, with temperatures ranging from 108 to 115 degrees in the Coachella Valley and near triple digits in Banning. The hottest day will be Saturday.

The NWS issued an excessive heat watch for 10 a.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Saturday, though Sunday's desert daytime high temperature is forecast above 105. The heat watch covers the Coachella Valley, the Pass Area, Imperial County and San Diego County desert areas.

"Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," according to the agency.

Overnight lows during the heatwave will dip into the high 7os in the desert and mid- to high 60s in Banning, the NWS reported.

Heat relief is expected as a low-pressure system moves inland through the western states Sunday into the middle of next week, bringing seasonal temperatures to the area, according to the NWS.
