PALM DESERT, CA — An excessive heat warning has been issued for parts of the Inland Empire with dangerously hot conditions and temperatures up to 114, the National Weather Service announced Tuesday.

Cities across both San Bernardino County and Riverside County, including the Coachella Valley and Indio, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, La Quinta and Coachella, were under the excessive heat warning from 10 a.m. Wednesday until 8 p.m. Thursday. All other Riverside County Cities were under heat advisories from noon Tuesday until 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the service. Temperatures were expected to reach 98 in areas below 5,000 feet. Much warmer than normal conditions at night will contribute to heat stress, the NWS said.

In Palm Desert, the NWS forecast high temperatures of 111 degrees Wednesday and 112 Thursday with a chance of thunderstorms through the weekend, along with cooling temperatures. Winds were expected to blow in Tuesday through Thursday, with gusts of as much as 25 miles per hour into Thursday.

The cities of Banning, Beaumont, Corona, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Moreno Valley, and Palm Desert can expect high temperatures between 99 and 104 degrees.

Extreme heat can significantly increase the potential for heat-related illness. The NWS recommends taking extra precautions for those working outside and when possible rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
