Santa Anas: Poway Under High Wind Warnings Into Saturday

The National Weather Service released high wind warnings across portions of the San Diego County valleys and mountains.

POWAY, CA —Poway residents woke to a hazy morning sky and gusting winds Friday. Air quality in the area was moderate, Friday, with blowing dust prevalent in the valley and mountain areas during the Santa Ana wind event.

High winds were felt in Escondido, Poway, Julian and Pine Valley, forecasters said. Santee, Ramona and La Mesa also remained under a High Wind Warning through Saturday morning at 10 a.m. In those areas, Santa Ana winds blew sustained at 25 to 35 miles per hour on Friday and were expected to continue gusting into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service, San Diego forecasters.

Northeast winds were expected to blow all day Friday through Saturday morning, with gusts of up to 60 miles per hour expected.

The strongest winds experienced Friday morning would taper off, and slow to a breeze after 10 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

During the extreme wind event, tree limbs could fall, as could power lines, leading to possible power outages. Drivers should use caution, especially if driving high-profile vehicles.

Air quality was expected to remain moderate into Saturday but could vary hour to hour, depending on wind conditions, authorities said.
