This simple and affordable project may just become a Christmas eve tradition at your house

By AUTUMN JOHNSON

Cookies and milk left out at every house, an entire website devoted to tracking Santa ... Kris Kringle sure does get all of the glory on Christmas eve but what about his eight tiny reindeer? After so much travel, don’t they deserve a little treat too? Not to worry! We have just the thing for Rudolph and his caribou crew.

Magic reindeer dust is fast, easy and fun for antsy kids counting down the hours until Christmas morning. This festive mix is an affordable, kid-friendly project that takes about five minutes to make.

The glitter helps show the reindeer to your house and the oats are a snack to be enjoyed while Santa is inside dropping those gifts.

  • Glitter (we recommend red, green, gold and silver)
  • Oatmeal
  • Ziplock bags or small plastic containers (one bag or container per child)

Cover the work space or have the child work on a clean baking sheet to help contain the glitter.
In a large bowl, combine the glitter (how much is up to you and your little ones) with several cups of oatmeal and stir. Divide the mix into containers of your choice. On Christmas eve, before they head to bed, your child can sprinkle the magic reindeer dust on the front lawn for Santa’s team.

If making this as a group project or as party favors, printable labels can be used on each bag or container. Click here to find a free, printable label.
