SDG&E Customers To Get Climate Credit In April

The credit installments are provided by the California Climate Credit program.

The energy bill break comes from the state's Cap-and-Trade Program, which requires power plants, fuel providers, and large industrial facilities that emit greenhouse gases to buy carbon pollution allowances.

SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego Gas and Electric residential customers will get a break on their energy bill next month, the company announced Monday.

Customers will receive a $78.22 credit on their electric bill in April, thanks to a state program. Customers with natural gas will also receive a $58.98 credit on the same statement.

In October, customers will receive a second credit on their electric bill. The three credit installments will total more than $200 in bill credits in 2024, according to SDG&E.

The credit installments are provided by the California Climate Credit program, which is administered by the California Public Utilities Commission in an effort to fight climate change. The energy bill break comes from the state's Cap-and-Trade Program, which requires power plants, fuel providers, and large industrial facilities that emit greenhouse gases to buy carbon pollution allowances.

The credits are typically distributed twice a year.

"They represent customers' share of the benefits from the state's Cap-and-Trade program and provide consumers with an increased opportunity to invest in energy-saving products during the transition to a low-carbon future," SDG&E said in a news release.

There is no action required to receive the credit, according to SDG&E. All electric and gas customers, including community choice aggregation and master-meter program customers, will automatically receive the credit in their upcoming billing cycles.
