More Than 50 Animals Recovered From Woodbridge Home: Animal Control

There is an urgent need for wet dog and cat food, officials said.

WOODBRIDGE, CT — More than 50 animals have been impounded as part of an ongoing "animal cruelty" investigation, according to the Woodbridge Regional Animal Control.

At 5 a.m. Saturday, the police department phone animal control and said there was a local resident with 14 dogs at the shelter looking to surrender them, officials said.

Upon arrival, there were 20 dogs in 5 cages that were in "horrid condition," animal control staff said.

The owner surrendered all the animals that were in cages at the home, officials said. So far, animal control staff have impounded 23 dogs, 20 cats and kittens with current trapping in the process of the other cats on site and one guinea pig and seven bunnies, officials said.

"Any help would be greatly appreciated for wet dog food, wet cat food and any other supplies that will help in this situation. Animal Cruelty charges were issued today and it’s an ongoing investigation," animal control staff wrote on Facebook.

Animal control officials thanked numerous agencies for assisting.

WFSB 3 TV reports that a woman has been charged with 22 counts of animal cruelty, and more than 60 animals have been seized. A name has not yet been released.
