Rep. France Takes Oath to Serve Second Term

Continues work in General Assembly Committees

HARTFORDState Representative Mike France (R-42) joined fellow legislative lawmakers for opening day of the 2017 Legislative Session last week at the State Capitol. The Opening Ceremony and Joint
Convention that heard Governor Malloy’s “State of the State Address” marked the beginning of Rep. France’s second two-year term.

“I am looking forward to serving the residents of the 42nd District for another two years,” said Rep. France.
“The General Assembly has the potential to make great decisions this Session with parity in the Senate and near parity in the House. This term my goal is to bring a greater focus in the legislature to the real issues facing our small towns and those in need. Thank you to my constituents for allowing me the honor of continuing to serve, and I look forward to seeing you all again in our district soon.”

This “long” session allows for individual bills on a variety of issues to be introduced by each Legislator, debated and voted on in committees and legislative chambers. Most importantly, the General
Assembly will be facing a significant budget shortfall entering the 2017 Legislative Session. The projected budget deficit for the biennial budget, covering July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020, is approximately
$3.5 billion.

House and Senate Republican budget priorities for the 2017 session continue to include implementing long-term structural changes to restore sustainability and predictability to the budget, and the “Prioritize
Progress” transportation plan to fund and protect transportation dollars without tax increases or any new revenue sources, such as tolls.

Rep. France continues to serve on the Appropriations, Government, Administration & Elections and Planning & Development Committees. He also remains a member of the Rural, Tourism, and Manufacturing Caucuses.
