Flash Flood Warning Issued for Westport: BREAKING

The National Weather Service says heavy rain and thunderstorms are moving through the area now.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for all of Fairfield County until 5 p.m. Friday. Heavy rain is now moving into the area and thunderstorms are also possible, the weather service states.

In a special statement the weather service states:

“At 157 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated rain and embedded thunderstorms producing heavy rain moving into the warned area. 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen just west of the area.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk, Milford, Shelton, New Canaan, Newtown, Fairfield, Greenwich, Stratford, Trumbull, Westport, Ridgefield, Darien and Monroe.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...“Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles. Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when youcan do so safely. A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property,” the National Weather Service states.
