Westport's Dr. Oshman Recognized on National Women Physicians Day

Fairfield County Medical Association Highlights Dr. Robin Oshman for Leadership in Fairfield County Chapter of American Women's Medical Assn

February 3, 2023 is the fourth annual National Women Physicians Day. The event celebrates Elizabeth Blackwell's birthday as she was the first female medical doctor in the United States.

The Fairfield County Medical Association proudly honors the women physicians across the country and applauds the progress they've made since Blackwell's time in 1849. Nationally, there are still fewer female doctors than male doctors, but the progress is steady. In 2017, for the first time in history, women made up more than half of all those in medical schools.

This year the Fairfield County Medical Association highlights Robin Oshman, MD, PhD, a dermatologist practicing in Westport, CT, who is the President of the Fairfield County Chapter of the American Women’s Medical Association. "As Elizabeth Blackwell experienced, life in our profession is difficult without the support of our colleagues,” stated Robin Oshman, MD, PhD.

“Promoting women physicians to positions of power in state and local medical organizations, making sure that my colleagues received well deserved recognition awards and establishing organizations run by and for women physicians have been among my contributions to our cause over the last 30 years,” Oshman added.

I look forward to the day when women physicians are regularly placed in positions of authority and receive income equal to their male counterparts. Happy Women Physicians Day to all!" - Dr. Oshman
