Gas Main Break Causes Detours In Clearwater

A gas main break has occurred in the vicinity of Barry Road at South Lake Drive, which is just south of Jeffords Street in Clearwater.

CLEARWATER, FL -- A gas main break has occurred in the vicinity of Barry Road at South Lake Drive, which is just south of Jeffords Street in Clearwater.

A 6-inch steel gas pipe was accidentally struck at 8:06 a.m. by an outside contractor, causing the leak.

Crews from Clearwater Gas System immediately responded and are on site making the needed repairs. Clearwater Gas System anticipates that the work will take several hours to complete.

Three residential customers have temporarily lost gas service. There were no evacuations.

This gas main break is affecting traffic. Motorists should avoid the area and can use Highland Avenue, Duncan Avenue or other roads that travel north and south as potential detour routes.
