James C. Metzger Featured In Long Island Magazine

Cover story about business and philanthropy for Tarpon Springs resident.

James C. Metzger shares time between Tarpon Springs and New York City, and recently he was featured on the cover of the September 2018 issue of Social Life Magazine, the premier luxury publication for the Hamptons. But, there is much more to the founder and CEO of The Whitmore Group, a leading insurance brokerage and financial firm in the New York City metropolitan area, than just insurance, finances and frequent visits to the string of popular seaside communities at the end of Long Island. Metzger has segued his business accomplishments into support for student-athletes, school athletic and education programs, and for many other local initiatives.

Metzger gives his parents total credit for his success and the many opportunities over the years that have allowed him to give back to the area’s schools, communities and nonprofit organizations.

“They are wonderful people,” said Metzger of his parents, “and they raised me placing a strong emphasis on character, trust and helping others when you can.”

Since the 1989 founding of his company, Metzger has championed local youth sports by sponsoring leadership awards, most valuable player awards and other accolades for grade school and high school student-athletes. He also supports athletic programs at a local PAL, various high schools and at his university alma mater.

Article Tells It All

This is the second time that Social Life Magazine has featured Metzger on its cover. The first opportunity occurred during September 2014, when the publication spotlighted Metzger’s business acumen and his commitment to share his success with others.

The current article, “The Big Assist,” explores Metzger's ever-evolving philanthropic contributions to sports and education programs along with many additional charitable organizations. During the time between magazine features, Metzger increased his civic support to include the James C. Metzger Stadium (a 1,000-seat sports complex at a local private high school) and as primary sponsor of the New York City Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

Off the field, Metzger continues his commitment to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, The American Heart Association, other health care initiatives, the Island Harvest local hunger relief organization and many other programs. For Metzger, the opportunities to assist communities, to help others and to continue to build his company easily can be summed up (on and off the field) as a win-win-win.
