Teacher Arrested For Relationship With Teen: Tarpon Springs Police

TARPON SPRINGS, FL — A Tarpon Springs High School math teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, authorities said.

Detectives learned about a possible relationship between James Collins and the 15-year-old student on Thursday, the Tarpon Springs Police Department said in a news release.

Following an investigation, he was arrested and charged with one count of computer pornography, prohibited computer usage and traveling to meet a minor; one count of interference with child custody; one county of lewd and lascivious battery; one county of lewd and lascivious molestation; one count of offense against students by an authority figure; one count of tampering with physical evidence; and one count of traveling to meet a minor.

Collins was a teacher at Tarpon Springs High School during the last school year, police said. Before this, he taught in Pasco County.

Police are looking for additional victims. Anyone with information about the case or other incidents involving Collins is asked to contact Detective Justin Smith at 727-937-6151.
