Tarpon Springs Outdoor Performance Ensemble Earns Top Honors

TARPON SPRINGS, FL — With its groundbreaking performance of RƎVO⅃UTION REMIXX, the Tarpon Springs Outdoor Performance Ensemble walked away with top honors from the 2019 Bands of America Orlando Regional Championship at Camping World Stadium.

In preliminary competition Oct. 12, TSOPE was named Class AA Champion, and also received outstanding music performance, outstanding visual performance and outstanding general effect in Class AA.

Additionally, the ensemble received co-honors for overall outstanding music performance and placed second overall in finals competition at the event.

More than 20 high school marching bands from around the nation participated in the competition.

The Tarpon Springs Outdoor Performance Ensemble of the Tarpon Springs Leadership Conservatory of the Arts performed a 1960s-themed production titled RƎVO⅃UTION REMIXX, inspired by composers Barber, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Grace Potter, Springfield and Sullivan.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our students and their two incredible performances today” said Kevin Ford, director of the Tarpon Springs Leadership Conservatory for the Arts. “I’m not sure we have ever had a TSOPE this strong so early in a season. We have so much to be proud of and I can’t wait to see them grow over the next three weeks.”

The Orlando Regional is a Bands of America, one-day preliminary and finals event. Bands of America (BOA) marching band championships are the premier events for high school marching bands in the nation.

In recent years, the Tarpon Springs Outdoor Performance Ensemble was named the 2018 Bands of America Division AA National Champion, the 2018 Bands of America Orlando Regional Champion, the 2017 Atlanta Super Regional Champion and the 2014 Grand National Champion.

The Tarpon Springs Leadership Conservatory for the Arts at 1411 Gulf Road, Tarpon Springs, is a nationally recognized program that provides an integrated curriculum in academics, instrumental music, technology and leadership skills.
