Woman Killed While Crossing U.S. 19 In Motorized Wheelchair

TARPON SPRINGS, FL — A woman in a motorized wheelchair has died after being struck by a Jeep in the 40300 block of U.S. 19 in Tarpon Springs Wednesday.

Tarpon Springs police received a 911 call at 12:31 p.m. that a woman had been struck by a white Jeep.

When police arrived, bystanders were attempting to provide first aid and CPR to the woman, who was then treated by Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue and taken to Advent Health of North Pinellas where she was pronounced dead at 1:03 p.m.

Police said the Jeep was heading north on U.S. 19 when the woman in the motorized wheelchair crossed the road outside a designated crossing.

The driver of the Jeep was obeying all traffic laws at the time, police said.
