LAWRENCEVILLE, GA β€” In the aftermath of severe thunderstorms that swept through much of north Georgia on Monday, Gwinnett County appeared to have been spared the worst.

Only a couple of storm-related incidents were being handled by Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services as of Monday afternoon, said Capt. Tommy Rutledge.

Firefighters responded to the scene of a tree down in the yard of a residence in the 2075 block of Veracruz Drive in Snellville. The tree fell across a vehicle at the location, but there were no injuries.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch Monday for most of Georgia, effective until 5 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch means that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms. The weather service issued the severe thunderstorm watch at 10:50 a.m. Monday.

Areas included in the severe thunderstorm watch are the city of Atlanta, plus Cobb, Dekalb, Gwinnett and Fulton counties.

Another round of severe storms is possible on Wednesday, forecasters say.
