Driver Appears To Have Intentionally Hit IDOT Worker: Police

Charges are expected to be filed against the driver, a woman. The male construction worker suffered moderate injuries, police said.

MARENGO, IL — Charges are expected to be filed against a woman who appears to have intentionally driven her vehicle into a construction worker in Marengo Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The Marengo Police Department and Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded to the crash on U.S. Route 20 and Park Drive at about 11:05 a.m. and found a man lying on the pavement and suffering from various injuries, according to a news release from the police department.

The Illinois Department of Transportation construction worker was working in an area where roadwork was being done and was responsible for controlling traffic, police said.

The construction worker was taken to a Rockford hospital for treatment of moderate injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The driver, a woman who remained in the area after the collision, was transported to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation, according to a news release.

Charges are expected to be filed against the driver, police said. Following the incident, the roadway was closed in both directions for 30 minutes.
