Snow Forecast for First Monday of 2016

Here's a look ahead, day by day, to your first work week of the new year. PLUS: 2015 weather in review.

On Monday, light to moderate-intensity lake-effect snow is expected to land on northeast Illinois late Monday through the afternoon, with accumulations of 1 to 2 inches, as the first full workweek of 2016 begins. (Over in Northwest Indiana, up to 3 inches of snow could accumulate Monday.)

The high will be near 32, with winds 10 to 15 mph and gusts as high as 20 mph.

Looking further ahead in the week, Tuesday looks clear but Wednesday’s forecast calls for light freezing rain, sleet and possible snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon could see rain, and rain is forecast for Friday, too.

Temperatures will climb to 38 on Wednesday, 40 on Thursday and possibly 44 on Friday.
