LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School is poised to offer a new sport next fall – girls flag football.

The Illinois High School Association now recognizes flag football as a sport. Lyons Township would be the ninth school in the West Suburban Conference to adopt flag football, according to a school memo. Four more are expected to join.

A couple of months ago, the Hinsdale High School District 86 board voted to offer girls flag football.

But the school has put up information with a QR code on display boards. From that, the school has determined that more than 50 girls are interested, Grundke said.

Board member Paula Struwing was positive about flag football.

“I’m super excited and curious about flag football here at LT. That’s just awesome,” she said.

According to the school’s website, practices start Aug. 12.
