Transform Excess Goods into Community Resources

Transform Excess Goods into Community Resources

GiveNKind is being spotlighted on the Community Art Wall located in the lobby of First Bank Chicago. The new exhibit highlights their mission to provide essential products to Chicagoland non-profits with help from hundreds of volunteers and donating companies across the United States.

GiveNKind began as a local movement to help fulfill the needs of Chicagoland non-profits by matching them with an individual with a specific donated item. Occasionally, GiveNKind received calls from businesses and distributors looking for placements for their excess goods. These calls increased over time, and GiveNKind responded. GiveNKind’s programs have evolved to solve large-scale resource issues while providing essential resources to thousands.

"GiveNKind is a non-profit for non-profits. It was founded to be a connection between companies with items stuck in the logistics stream and the non-profits who need those very items to make their missions possible. With a huge supply of goods companies are holding that will never make it to stores for a variety of reasons, and a huge demand amongst communities in need, GiveNKind serves as an important link to making these goods available to those who need it most,” said Emily Petway, Executive Director.

Today’s GiveNKind reflects their growing commitment to helping people and the environment to transform excess goods into community resources. In 2023, GiveNKind placed over 14 million dollars of resources with local non-profits that uplift communities.

GiveNKind provides resources donated from 160+ companies across the United States to 600+ nonprofits in Chicagoland. Volunteers are what make this possible, helping to intake truckloads of goods each week, stock shelves, and fulfill hundreds of orders each month. Volunteering at GiveNKind has a ripple effect across the entire area, making communities more resilient and keeping essential resources out of landfills.

The GiveNKind exhibit is located in the bank lobby and will be open to the public during regular business hours throughout the month of May.
