Bad News (Again) for Small Businesses in Illinois

Let's just say you wouldn't want to bring this report card home to mom and dad.

For the second year in a row, Illinois has received a failing grade in Thumbtack’s annual Small Business Friendliness survey.

Thumbtack collected data from nearly 18,000 small business owners in the U.S. and used it to grade states on 10 different criteria such as tax code, regulations, licensing and ease of starting a new business.

Illinois’ grade has fallen from a D+ since the survey began in 2012, though it wasn’t the only state that flunked this year. Small business owners in California, Connecticut and Rhode Island also gave their states an F. Conversely, the highest grades were given to Texas (A+), New Hampshire (A+), Utah (A+), Louisiana (A) and Colorado (A).
