'Street Outlaws’ Filming Live at Route 66 Raceway Sept. 7 & 8

Public can watch as Discovery Channel films two episodes of the No Prep Kings underground street racing circuit at Route 66 Raceway.

Just as the street-fighting gladiators came to the majestic Roman Colosseum, so, too, is the underground street racing circuit 'Street Outlaws' coming to Joliet's world class dragstrip, Route 66 Raceway.

Fans of the Discovery Channel's hit TV show Street Outlaws can participate in filming of two episodes Friday and Saturday, according to Route 66 Raceway President Scott Paddock.

The public will experience the roaring thrill of the street racing due to Route 66 Raceway's design and acoustics.

"The acoustics are contained within, so you get the full-body experience," Paddock said. "We allow them to come right up to the wall.”

The fastest underground street racers in America will compete to move up "the list" of the top ten best.

"It's a very prestigious thing to be on that list," Paddock said.

Debuting in 2003, the Discovery Channel LIVE has chronicled Oklahoma City's underground racing circuit and the No Prep Kings for 11 seasons.

"(OKC drivers have) mercilessly proven time and time again, from California to Texas to Michigan, that Oklahoma City holds the fastest cars in the country," according to a Discovery Channel release. "The stakes are high and the risks are greater, but it’s all worth it to reach #1.”

The excitement of the high-risk and high-stakes racing have made the show among the most popular on TV today, Paddock said.

"Part of the allure of the show is to see these real life celebrities and opponents, and to be a part of the real live action," he said. "Fans could be in the show."

General admission tickets are $20 a person Friday, and $30 a person Saturday. Gates and pits open Friday at 2 p.m., and Saturday at 9 a.m. Tickets are available for purchase by clicking here.
