Youth and Young Adult Coordinator

Position Summary: The Youth and Young Adult Coordinators are Part-Time positions where weekly guidance, nurturing, direction, and leadership is provided for the Nichols Bethel United Methodist Church youth in Grades 5 to 7, Grades 8 to 12, or post high school to age 30. A qualified candidate must work effectively with the church staff and each Youth Coordinator within the Church and community. Youth Coordinators must be of the Christian faith, friendly, outgoing, and communicative.

General Qualifications:

  • Age Qualification:
    • 23 years or older for Youth Coordinator Grades 5 to 7 and
    • 23 years or older for Youth Coordinator Grades 8 to 12
    • 30 years or older for Young Adult Coordinator age 18 to 30
  • Minimum of 3 years working or participating in a Youth Ministry Program
  • Education - High School Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Must have knowledge of various Social Media platforms
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with each of the Youth Coordinators
  • Demonstrate potential to work effectively with the Pastor, Associate Pastor, SPRC Chair, Church Staff, a variety of Church Groups, and the community as a whole
  • Skillful communicator, collaborator, organizer, and planner
  • Compassionate and energetic
  • Be a deeply committed Christian, possessing a humble spirit and willingness to be a Christian model
  • Have a heart for the Church’s vision of ministry to Youth and Young Adults
  • Have a basic understanding of Youth and Young Adults and their needs
  • Be adaptive to a variety of situations, including emergencies
  • Possess excellent people skills with an ability to work with Youth and Young Adults
  • Can work as a team player, supporting and encouraging parents and other staff
  • Completion of a satisfactory background check

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Performance Expectations

  • Provide Church and Community Youth and Young Adults the opportunity to experience and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through worship, discipleship, education, fellowship, and service.
  • Provide Youth and Young Adults with guidance and appropriate counsel in support of Christian growth
  • Develop, plan, and deliver age-appropriate Biblical-based activities to Youth and Young Adults to include but not be limited to Bible Study, Mission opportunities, faith sharing, and fellowship.
  • Produce and nurture bonds of respect, affection, and acceptance of diversity while building passion and proficiency in the word of God.
  • Collaborate with all Youth Coordinators and Church staff, as needed to plan, organize, and oversee Youth events and develop leadership for Youth and Young Adult ministry
  • Plan and coordinate events such Work Camp and Rock Retreat
  • Maintain communication with Pastors, Parents, Church Staff, and SPRC
  • Encourage Youth involvement in all aspects of Church life including but not limited to weekly worship services, studies, and ministries
  • Develop a relationship of trust and continuity with the Youth and Young adults while enhancing development of positive self-image
  • Collaborate with and participate in various Mission groups and other committees to build opportunities for continued growth in Youth and Young Adult fellowship
  • Connect the Youth and Young Adult ministry with the overall NBUMC vision and mission.
  • Strike a balance between “fun” and “spiritual growth and service”
  • Attend required trainings provided by NBUMC
  • Abide by and apply the Safe Sanctuary policies of NBUMC and the Baltimore-Washington Conference Sexual Abuse Policy Compliance
  • Provide quarterly reports of Youth and Young Adult Ministry to the Church Council
  • Commit to approximately 12 hours per week
  • Salary $8200 per year
