Maryland's Top 10 Most Stolen Vehicles Revealed

The National Insurance Crime Bureau took a look at the most commonly stolen makes and models across all 50 states.

Criminals with a penchant for helping themselves to other peoples’ rides seem to have a thing for two Honda models above all others nationally, while Maryland thieves lean toward a minivan.

Those are the findings of the National Insurance Crime Bureau after its experts crunched numbers related to auto thefts across the country in 2014. Using vehicle theft data submitted by law enforcement agencies to the National Crime Information Center, the bureau found the most two commonly swiped cars in 2014 were the Honda Accord and Honda Civic. A total of 51,290 Accords were reported stolen in 2014 across the United States while Civics trailed behind at 43,936.

  • Ford pickups – 28,680
  • Chevrolet pickups – 23,196
  • Toyota Camry – 14,605
  • Dodge pickups – 11,075
  • Dodge Caravan – 10,483
  • Nissan Altima – 9,109
  • Acura Integra – 6,902
  • Nissan Maxima – 6,586

The National Insurance Crime Bureau also revealed the Top 10 most commonly stolen makes and models by state. Here are the vehicles it says top Maryland’s list in number of thefts:

  1. Dodge Caravan
  2. Honda Accord
  3. Ford pickup (full size)
  4. Toyota Camry
  5. Honda Civic
  6. Nissan Altima
  7. Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee
  8. Chrysler Town & Country
  9. Toyota Corolla
  10. Chevrolet pickup (full size)

  • Lock vehicle doors and take keys
  • Install a warning device, such as a car alarm
  • Install an immobilizing device that disables a vehicle that has been targeted by a thief
  • Install a tracking device that makes it easier to law enforcement to track a stolen vehicle
