MASSACHUSETTS — Welcome to Patch's weekly round up of food and restaurant news in Massachusetts, where we review openings, closings and more in the state's dining scene.

This week, we learned that Salem's Root was one of eight culinary organizations nationwide to be awarded a $10,000 Jacques Pépin Foundation grant in support of its mission to help young adults create pathways to independence through food service training and employment.

Root will use the grant to support culinary training and employment programs, including certification in financial literacy, assistance with housing and attaining driver's licenses, and additional culinary skills training.

Root will also receive JPF branded aprons for their students and a group membership to the Foundation.

Also this week, the ownership group behind the Nantucket Wine & Food Festival is pursuing a lawsuit against a Massachusetts company that they say is attempting to effectively steal the festival.

The Gordon Companies said they will host a new festival during the same weekend as the current festival run by Nancy Bean. They also announced plans to host it at the location Bean has held the festival at for the past decade.
