Danvers Sewer Rates To Increase, Electric Rates To Drop In July

The town said sewer rates will increase by 2.5 percent while electric rates for the rest of 2024 will go down by 9.3 percent.

DANVERS, MA — Danvers residents will see a 2.5 percent increase in sewer rates, while enjoying a break in electric rates for the rest of 2024, in a pair of price adjustments the town announced on Monday.

The town said Water & Sewer Commissions recommended that water rates remain unchanged, while sewer rates will increase by 2.5 percent "to continue maintaining and improving our essential sewer infrastructure." Water rates will remain steady.

The estimated combined water and sewer increase is 1.18 percent or $6.35 per quarter.

"The decision to hold water rates steady while making a slight adjustment to sewer rates reflects our balanced approach to managing the town's utilities," said Rob Dever, Director of Operations. "Our goal is to ensure that we can continue to provide high-quality services without placing a significant financial burden on our residents."

Residents and businesses will see the new sewer rates reflected in their bills starting in July.

The town said the decrease approved by the Municipal Light Board will be $11.25 for a single-family homeowner with typical usage.

"Danvers Electric is committed to providing affordable and reliable electric service to our community," said Clint Allen, Acting Utility Director, "We are thrilled to pass on these savings to our residents and businesses, especially during these challenging economic times."

The new rates go into effect in July as well.
