WINCHESTER, MA—It’s going to be dangerously cold across the Commonwealth this Valentine’s Day weekend.
The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory for much of the state from 4 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday. One look at the forecast makes it clear why.
With near-record sub-zero temperatures on deck, wind chills will get close to -30 degrees around Boston and even colder out near Worcester.
Winchester is currently projected to see highs of 18 degrees and lows of -8 on Saturday as well as a high of 13 and a low of -6 Sunday.
Saturday could kick off with light snow showers. Temperatures will sit in the teens and wind chill values will be around -8, according to the National Weather Service.
The wind will pick up throughout Saturday with gusts as high as 40 miles per hour. That, plus the sub-zero temperatures, will make it feel likes it’s about 25 degrees below zero.
Sunday morning will be when the temperatures are expected to bottom out.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency recommends that people try to minimize outside activities as much as possible, since prolonged exposure to the cold can lead to serious health issues including frostbite and, in extreme cases, hypothermia.
“MEMA is urging residents to take precautions during this period of extreme cold weather. Stay indoors if you can. If you must go outside, dress in layers and make sure your car is equipped with cold weather gear and an emergency kit,” said Mema director Kurt Schwartz.
