Oakland County Motorcyclist Killed In Crash: Sheriff

Investigators do not know if alcohol use by the motorcyclist played a role in the crash, but did determine the motorcyclist​ speeding.

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, MI — A 42-year-old Waterford Township man died Saturday night in a motorcycle crash, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Police said the motorcyclist was riding a 2002 Honda CBR900 motorcycle south on Sashabaw Road near Fowler Drive in Independence Township at 11 p.m. when he failed to turn around a curve, according to the sheriff's office.

The motorcyclist then crossed over the centerline and sideswiped a 2018 Jeep Compass that was moving in the northbound lanes on Sashabaw Road, according to the sheriff's office.

After hitting the Jeep Compass, the motorcyclist and the motorcycle went to the ground and were struck by a 2022 Ford Bronco that was also moving north on Sashabaw Road, according to the sheriff's office.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, died in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators do not know if alcohol use by the motorcyclist played a role in the crash, but did determine the motorcyclist speeding.

His name was not released.

The driver of the Jeep, a 27-year-old Waterford Township resident, and the driver of the Bronco, a 47-year-old Independence Township resident, were not injured in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

Police were still investigating the crash.
