Is This The Most Tricky Intersection In The Twin Cities?

BLOOMINGTON, MN — Patch asked readers which intersection is the most tricky to maneuver in the Twin Cities metro area, and several people said it was hands down, the Interstate 35W-Interstate 494 interchange.

And it turns out that the data backs up that opinion.

"The junction of I-35W and I-494 is the busiest and one of the most congested and unsafe intersections in Minnesota," reads a report from the city of Bloomington.

"The I-494 corridor commute is ranked as the 17th worst commute in the entire nation. Approximately 21 percent of metro-area jobs are located along the I-494 corridor. Conditions will continue to deteriorate if improvements are not made soon."

The good news is that improvements to the interchange are in the works. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is currently planning a reconstruction I-494 from Bloomington, Richfield, Eden Prairie and Edina.

Transit officials say that a turbine interchange will be constructed to improve traffic and safety on both I-35W and I-494, particularly for drivers heading northbound I-35W to westbound I-494.
