Brick 8-10 All-Stars Win Little League District 18 Championship

The team advances to the New Jersey Section 3 tournament, which will be played in Brick.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Little League's 8- to 10-year-old all-star team has won the New Jersey Little League District 18 tournament for its age group.

The team, which defeated Toms River Little League 3-1 to win the district, advances to the Section 3 tournament, which begins July 16. The tournament is being hosted by the Brick Little League, league president Mike Desmond said.

Brick won the championship on a two-run double by Layla Goode that snapped a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, Desmond said.

Brick had taken a 1-0 lead on a single by Max Steinhandler in the first inning, and Toms River tied the game in the top of the second inning, Desmond said, before Layla's winning hit.

Anthony Fornoro was the winning pitcher for Brick. He gave up one run on two hits over 3-2/3 innings with one strikeout. Danny MacInnes pitched 2-1/3 innings of relief and recorded the last seven outs to earn the save.

The team went 4-2 in the district tournament, he said.
