BRICK, NJ — Ja'Sir Taylor, a Brick High School football star, was drafted Saturday to continue his football career in the NFL.

Taylor, a 2017 Brick graduate who played for Wake Forest for the last five seasons, was chosen in the sixth round of the NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.

At Wake Forest Taylor had 185 tackles, including 153 solo tackles, and was a team captain for the Demon Deacons in 2020 and 2021, according to Chargers.com. He also was an all-ACC Honorable Mention and played in the East-West Shrine Game, the website said.

The website The Touchdown calls Taylor a "sleeper," a player taken in the later rounds of the draft who will play far better than is anticipated.

The Chargers announced the pick first with a tweet with a video clip of Taylor returning a punt for a touchdown, saying "gms aren't the only ones making housecalls today," followed by a second tweet welcoming him to the team.
