Brick Sets Trunk Or Treat With Coronavirus Restrictions

The annual event will require registration and will be open to Brick residents only; trick-or-treating is on for Oct. 31, the mayor said.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township will hold its annual Trunk or Treat event, but the 2020 version will be modified due to the coronavirus pandemic, township officials announced.

The event is set for Oct. 23 (with a rain date of Oct. 30) at the Drum Point Sports Complex.

"Trunk or Treat is an event where residents, local organizations and businesses bring their vehicles, decorate them, pop the trunk and hand out treats. It has become one of the most popular events in Brick Township and Mayor Ducey and the Council wanted to make sure it was available to Brick’s young people this year," township officials said.

Ducey, in his Facebook live, said the township is supporting trick-or-treating on Halloween in the midst of the pandemic, but said it is up to individual families whether they participate. Homes not offering treats should make sure their front lights are turned off, he said.

The following modifications have been put in to place for this year’s Trunk or Treat:

The event is open to Brick residents only and you must provide valid ID and proof of residence.

There will be three sessions: 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Each session will be limited to 75 vehicles. The 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. sessions will park at Drum Point Sports Complex, and the 7 p.m. session will park at Emma Havens Young Elementary School.

Advance registration is required and no one will be admitted without a receipt. This will be strictly enforced. Receipts will be checked at the gate.

Trunk or Treaters will walk in one direction and will be spaced out to comply with COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.

Masks are required for all participants.'

No haunted hayride.

A scary walk will be available to walk through in one direction.

There will be no food concessions.

"These modifications were necessary to move forward with the Trunk or Treat and ensure the safety of participants," officials said.
