Brick Students Invited To Spring Sports 'Final Friendlies'

BRICK, NJ — When schools were forced to go to remote learning for the remainder of the school year due to the coronavirus pandemic, high school senior athletes who play spring sports were left without a season.

To make up for that, Brick Township's recreation department is hosting a group of last-chance sports competitions for township students who played spring sports at Brick and Brick Memorial, Mayor John G. Ducey said Tuesday night.

The "Final Friendlies" will be held at the end of July, with competitions in softball, girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse, boys tennis and baseball.

"It's kids getting their last chance to play a game, especially for those who aren't playing in college," Ducey said.

Students who want to participate must contact the Brick Township Recreation Department, Ducey said. The Final Friendlies are being held independent of the school district, following rules laid out by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association. Only students who would have been participating on the spring sports teams are invited to participate, Ducey said.

The games will be played at the Drum Point Sports Complex and at the Brick American Little League complex.
