Brick Woman Hosts Online Short-Film Festival

The Carny Cuts Film Fest 2020 is accepting entries from filmmakers. There's one catch: the films 60 seconds long.

BRICK, NJ — Can you tell a story in 60 seconds?

A Brick Township woman is inviting filmmakers to show off their skills in an online film festival of 60-second movies that aims to highlight works by minorities.

The Carny Cuts Film Fest 2020, presented by Carnival Girls Productions, is inviting entries of 60-second films through Sept. 30. Christie Perfetti Williams of Brick is the co-producer of the event with Arlene McGruder.

Filmmakers of all ages and experiences are welcome, and the festival will focus on the work of Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color. The festival will premier Oct. 19-23 on the Carny Cuts Film Fest 2020 Facebook page. The festival is offering two prizes of $250 each, one for Fan Favorite and one for the Best of the Fest.

Here are the rules:

  • All films must be 60 seconds or shorter, no exceptions. Additional time is allowed for title card and credits.
  • At least one member of the writing, producing, or directing team must be a female-identifying Black, Indigenous, or Woman of Color.
  • At least one actor must be a female-identifying Black, Indigenous, or Woman of Color.
  • Any music, art, recordings, etc. used in the film must belong to the filmmaker and be copyright-free/public domain.
  • All films must reflect this year’s theme: (Im)perfect 2020 Vision.

To submit:

  • Please submit a public or unlisted YouTube/Vimeo link only. All other links or attachments will not be opened.
  • All genres are welcome.
  • All films must be PG; family friendly.
  • Films shot on phones are encouraged.
  • Films cannot contain overt advertisements, promotions, or plugs.
  • All submissions must include cast, crew, and location info as well as the date filmed.
  • Accepted films will not be edited by Carnival Girls Productions and will be shared as is.
  • There is no submission fee.

Please submit the film link and production info via Facebook messenger to Carny Cuts Film Fest 2020 by Sept. 30. Submissions will not be accepted after thats date. If chosen for inclusion, filmmakers will be notified by Oct. 5.

The Fan Favorite prize will be determined by the most amount of LIKES a film receives. The Best of Fest prize will be chosen by a judge from the film industry.
