Brick's VanSickle Helps Cabrini Soccer Win Conference Crown

Senior Diana VanSickle, the team's leading scorer, helped Cabrini to the Atlantic East title, with Brick's Riley Underwood, a sophomore.

BRICK, NJ — Two Brick Township residents have helped the Cabrini women's soccer team win the 2019 Atlantic East Conference championship. On Saturday, they take the field in the next round of the postseason, the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships.

Diana VanSickle, a 2016 graduate of Brick Township High School, and Riley Underwood, a sophomore and 2018 Donovan Catholic graduate, have provided key minutes in the midfield for the Cavaliers en route to a 15-3-2 season. The 15 wins is a team record, and Cabrini won its their second conference title in three years.

VanSickle is Cabrini's leading scorer in 2019, with 9 goals and an assist from her midfield position, including four game-winning goals. She scored both goals in the Atlantic East tournament opener, a 2-0 win over Marymount, and had the insurance goal in the title game 2-0 win over Marywood.

She also had game-winning goals against Neumann (a 4-0 win on Oct. 9), Notre Dame of Maryland (a 3-1 win on Sept. 21) and the lone goal in the season-opening win over Bryn Mawr.

VanSickle has 16 goals and 3 assists in her four-year career at Cabrini, with 45 shots on goal (and 102 shots taken) in 3,030 minutes played.

Underwood, meanwhile, has a goal and an assist in 2019 on 6 shots (two on goal) in 644 minutes minutes played. She had an assist and seven shots (two on goal) in 614 minutes as a freshman.

On Saturday morning, the Cavaliers are in Springfield, Massachusetts, taking on Springfield in the opening round of the ECAC tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and can be watched online through a link on the Cabrini schedule.

The Atlantic East Conference title is Cabrini's first but its 11th conference title overall. The Cavaliers won the Colonial States Athletic Conference title in 2017, and helped form the Atlantic East Conference before the 2018 school year.
