JACKSON, NJ — Roller coaster aficionados, listen up: The Jersey Devil is coming for you.

The newest roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure is anticipated to open in 2021, and on Monday the final piece of track at the top of the 130-foot peak was put in place, topping off the track construction for the coaster, Six Flags announced.

The Jersey Devil Coaster is billed by the amusement park as "the world’s tallest, longest, and fastest single-rail coaster. On Monday, iron workers from TCN & Company of Marlton, which has been assembling the ride, along with the ride’s manufacturer and Six Flags project supervisor, signed the final piece of orange steel before it was lifted up to its final resting place atop the 87-degree vertical drop. With the track construction complete, the crews building the ride will install the chain-link lift mechanism that will hoist riders to the top of the 13-story hill and add four trains that feature seating for 12 riders sitting low and single file while straddling the I-beam track.

The ride station including a moving platform, transfer track, maintenance area and queue, must be built, and ride controls installed. Ride testing and New Jersey inspections must be completed before the ride opens, said Kristen Fitzgerald, spokeswoman for the park.

An opening date for the coaster has not yet been set.

The ride, inspired by the tales of the Jersey Devil, will have peak speeds of 58 mph along 3,000 feet of track that includes three dramatic inversions: a 180-degree stall, a raven dive, and a zero-gravity roll, she said.
