JACKSON, NJ — If you're planning to go to Six Flags Great Adventure or Hurricane Harbor this summer, you will need to make a reservation.

The theme park and water park announced the provision on their websites, part of what will be efforts to meet social distancing guidelines due to the impact of the new coronavirus.

Six Flags Great Adventure normally opens the first weekend in April, but has remain closed, part of the continuing closure of nonessential businesses to help slow the spread of the virus. An opening date has not been announced, as the park waits for direction from the state on when nonessential businesses can reopen.

Gov. Phil Murphy on Wednesday extended New Jersey's public health emergency for another 30 days. Reservations will be taken online once an opening date has been announced, but Six Flags has not released details on what that reservation system will entail, or how many visitors will be permitted in the park at one time.

Scott McConnell, a park spokesperson, said details on the system are being finalized and will be released once they are completed.

The reservation system will apply to both season pass holders and single-day ticket buyers, the website said.

The theme park has not given an indication of what other social distancing measures might be taken once the park reopens.
