Star Student: Sofia Excels In Volunteering In Brick

BRICK, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

I’m her mom

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Sofia should be recognized for her academic performance, her leadership skills, her compassion, her vocation to serve and willingness to help. She has completed more than 280 service hours in the past year. Her most recent project was her Musical Connections program to reduce social isolation and depression (that may lead to dementia in the long run) among seniors using the power of music. She implemented her STEM-based, intergenerational, biweekly music program at the Brick Township Senior Center and the seniors loved it!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

One thing I want everyone to know about Sofia is that she’s always willing to give a helping hand and that she’ll never let anyone down.
