2 Edison Stop & Shop Supermarkets Are Closing

Stop & Shop's parent company Friday announced the closure, including 10 in New Jersey.

EDISON, NJ — Two Edison Stop & Shop supermarkets will close as part of the chain's strategy to "position the company for growth," according to a news release.

The two stores are among 10 in NJ to face closure. The stores will close by the end of 2024, the company announced.

  • 1083 Inman Ave., Edison
  • 1049 US Highway 1 South, Edison

The chain will shutter 32 stores across the Northeast. The supermarket chain initially announced plans to close stores in May.

"Stop & Shop has evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy base for the future growth of our brand," Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid said in a news release.

The company said it will offer jobs at other supermarket locations to workers whose stores will close.

Stop & Shop will also close five stores in Connecticut, eight in Massachusetts, seven in New York, and two in Rhode Island.
