Man Dies In Flemington Wood Chipper Accident

Flemington police were called to the St. Magdalen Cemetery where they found the man's body shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ — A Flemington man is dead after authorities said he was involved in a wood chipper accident while working at a Hunterdon County cemetery.

Flemington police were called to the St. Magdalen Cemetery shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, where they found the body of 22-year-old Eonias Mateo-Perez, the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

Authorities later determined Mateo-Perez suffered fatal injuries while operating tree-chipping equipment. He was declared dead at the scene, prosecutors said.

The prosecutor’s office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident. The incident was believed to be an accident and no foul play is suspected.

OSHA said Mateo-Perez was an employee of William LaRue Services, according to a New York Daily News report.
