Rock Climbers Sought For Competition At Sourland Mountain Preserve

New Jersey's only organized outdoor bouldering (rock climbing) competition will be held in Hillsborough on April 8.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Boulderers are invited to the Sourland Mountain Preserve in Hillsborough on Saturday, April 8 for New Jersey’s only organized outdoor bouldering (rock climbing) competition. Registration is now open.

The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Participants and spectators should meet in the Sourland Mountain Preserve parking lot off East Mountain Road in Hillsborough.

Bouldering is a style of rock climbing undertaken without a rope and normally limited to very short climbs so that a fall will not result in injury. It is typically practiced on large boulders or artificial man-made boulders, however it can also be practiced at the base of larger rock faces.

Prize donations and sponsorship are provided by Access Fund, REI, Princeton Tec, Organic Climbing, Joshua Tree Products, Mo Climbing, and Eastern Mountain Sports.
