HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — It's truly a family affair. Hillsborough filmmaker Karl Ryan Erikson along with his wife Caroline and 8-year-old son Benjamin are working on their latest film - a Thanksgiving Family comedy.

Erikson is the writer/director, Caroline is the producer and their son Ben is one of the leading actors. Ben is currently studying acting at the Allegra School of Music & Arts in Hillsborough and is quite the movie buff.

Ben previously starred inhis father's spooky film SHED in 2020.

"I came about the idea was just my experiences with my mother, my mother-in-law, and my wife watching them kind of struggle through the holidays, to kind of create this perfect meal" said Erikson. "And I just pulled from different areas of my life to create different plot points."

The storyline follows the character Alison who loses her late mother's cherished recipe book and must improvise the Thanksgiving feast from scratch before her overbearing relatives arrive.

"We've all hosted or know someone who has hosted a large family party. It gets crazy! This is a coming-of-age family comedy that is easy to identify with no matter what generation you’re in. It explores the eagerness, the ignorance, and the fears of moving into our next phases in life - with a laugh," said Erikson.

Erikson plans to shoot here in Somerset County and has some NJ investors but they need more help. Erikson is running a crowdfunding campaign to help with the costs of production - seedandspark.com/fund/the-family-recipe#story.
