Jersey City Has Second Highest Rents In Country, More Than $3K For A 1BR: Study

The median rent for a 1BR apartment in the Jersey City area has risen to above $3K, a study found. Find out where other cities rank.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Reports of unprecedented rent increases in Jersey City are nothing new, but a new report shows the median rent there among the highest in the country, second only to New York City.

Zumper, which posted rents for dozens of New York City neighborhoods, put the median rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in Jersey City is $3,390, second only to New York City's $3,980.

San Francisco, Boston, and Miami round out the top five cities in the country with the highest average rents for a one-bedroom.

After Jersey City, the next highest city on the list is Newark at number 44, at $1,430 for a one-bedroom.

Hoboken and other Hudson County cities are part of the Jersey City metropolitan area.

While rents may be soaring in the area, tenants have reported that some of them were raised illegally.
