15 Cars Stolen In Livingston; 14 Had Keys Inside, Police Say

LIVINGSTON, NJ — It’s a big problem with a simple solution, Livingston police say: Don’t leave your keys in the car.

The Livingston Police Department recently issued an advisory to residents and drivers in the township with an eye-catching statistic. Out of 15 vehicles stolen in the township so far this year, 14 had the key fobs left inside.

The latest theft took place earlier this week, police said.

“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s such an easy fix,” police added. “Stop leaving your cars unlocked and key fobs in them.”

The trend isn’t unique to Livingston. Nearby in Caldwell, police issued a similar advisory on Wednesday evening, saying that there’s been “an uptick in motor vehicle burglaries/thefts in our area” due to vehicles being left unlocked.
