Charlie Schilling Dies; Ex-Livingston Chief Was 'Friend, Mentor'
A longtime friend to the Livingston public safety community – and the township as a whole – has passed away, officials reported.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A longtime friend to the Livingston public safety community – and the township as a whole – has passed away, officials reported.
On Wednesday, the Livingston Police Department posted a message of condolence after the death of former Livingston Fire Department Chief Charlie Schilling.
The LPD wrote:

“On behalf of Chief Gary Marshuetz and the men and women of the Livingston Police Department we would like to send our condolences to the entire Schilling family. Chief Schilling will be missed by all of us that knew him. He was not only a friend, but he was a mentor to many of our officers throughout the years. Rest in peace, chief.”

According to the Livingston Fire Department, Schilling served as chief from 1954 to 1990. He continued to serve as a member of the department and worked with the municipal building department as a code enforcement officer, and was an original charter member of the Livingston First Aid Squad.
