LIVINGSTON, NJ — Everyone loves a fragrant, well-decorated Christmas tree, but keeping a dry tree around after the holidays could be a fire hazard. Plus, nobody wants to spend days sweeping up needles.

That's why the Township of Livingston's Public Works department in January will collect and recycle trees free of lights and decoration.

The pickup period will span from Jan. 4 to Jan. 29, and trees will be collected Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The township, in a news release, asked residents to leave live-cut trees by the curb, like they would for regular recycling, to have them collected.

The township said it collected 1,175 trees after Christmas 2019, helping protect the environment and save costs. Trees are collected and made into mulch for flower beds and garden borders, and the township is not charged for bulk pickup.
